Dee Thomas
Profile
Dee uses mark-making, colour and texture to represent moments in time. The fabrics, stitches and images are carefully chosen to reflect a sense of place or emotion captured in a fleeting moment. This ‘snapshot’ view is a recurring theme in her work.
This interest in time and memory, where the beauty of a surface or scene is revealed or concealed is demonstrated in a mixture of hand and machine stitches. Elements of collage are to be found in her work.
Dee is inspired by ceramic artists such as Ewen Henderson, Craig Underhill and Steven Dixon and artists such as Elizabeth Frink, John Piper, Robert Rauschenberg and Kurt Jackson.
