Lynne is currently developing three themes in her work.
Dysfunctional clothes: my brain is about to explode
Lynne spends a great deal of time counselling her closest family members who have a range of severe mental disorders. This has affected her state of my mind which she has depicted through a range of ‘dysfunctional clothes’. Each item of clothes has all the attention to detail you would expect of any coutured garment – all the openings work – but they are at a quarter – half scale. An exercise in control – and yet very wrong!
Children’s games
A series of pictures showing the body in movements: children skipping, running, etc; which have a nostalgic appearance reminiscent of the 1930s. These are being developed into clothes and pictures using lino printing techniques.
Secret lives
A dominatrix who commissioned work from a friend of Lynne’s inspires this body of work. This sedate little woman served tea in a bone china cup and cakes on a doileyed plate as she commissioned man~sized baby-grows, bonnets, and frilly dresses. This led Lynne to create images in the style of 1930s tablecloths with crinolined ladies wearing fish net tights and holding whips and dog collars.
Profile
Since 1987 Lynne has been educating, teaching and advising fashion and textile students for a number of companies including John Lewis, Liberty, Richmond Adult Community College, Nationwide Exhibitions, ‘Agony Aunt’ for Burda, Kensington and Chelsea College where she was Senior Lecturer. Lynne continues to offer private tuition to fashion and textile students.
