Samantha Harvey
Profile
Sam is interested in creating work to make you smile and look. Her current body of work explores the unexpected diversity, beauty and quirkiness of the fragile under-water gardens found at the edge of the sea in small stitched sculptures. Each individual piece is constructed from odds and ends such as milk bottle tops, vegetable bags, string, glow-in-the-dark threads, LEDs and wires.
Sam also runs Stitch Clubs which introduce the fun and creativity of sewing to young children, teens and adults. (see stitch-london.co.uk)
Previously Sam was involved in the pioneering development of interactive media, including CD-ROM, Web and DVD. In 2003 she gave up formally directing others to make things in order to develop her own creative ideas and skills. Her interest with art which moves and responds to interactivity is something which she is planning to develop with her textiles.
