Trish Vickers
Current Work
Trish’s work is a response to traditional patterns and folklore, employing a modern slant on the time-honoured skills of knitting, feltmaking and embroidery. The pieces exploit the differential shrinkage of different fibres to create highly textured surfaces. She has made a variety of fabrics using pleated cottons, hand and machine knitting with wool, cotton and silk yarns and machine embroidery applied to different backgrounds using the embellisher to manipulate and blend, creating a highly textured cloth.
PROFILE
Trish has had a lifelong interest in textile crafts, with particular emphasis on hand and machine knitting. Economy and thrift were features of her childhood wardrobe with many clothes being remade and recycled, not always with outstanding results.
After many years working in industry and education she was finally in a position to indulge her creative side during her time at East Berkshire College, Windsor. Old habits die hard, however, and she continues to explore her interest in traditional patterns in workwear, with an emphasis on repair and reuse, whilst, at the same time, running workshops for children and adults in her home county of Berkshire.
